The traditions of Isis, Black Madonna, Kali Ma—are all portals to both nurturing and transformative feminine energy, helping us reclaim sacredness in bodies that have been oppressed, denied and misunderstood.

The focus on womb-space as a metaphor and a literal space for creation, intuition, is rooted in wisdom of a deep, inherent knowing that transcends gender. For many women, queer, gender non-conforming, and trans folks, this space offers healing, self-love, and empowerment—reclaiming sacredness that has often been denied.

My teacher Deborah Sundahl’s always said “we aren’t teaching you anything your body doesn’t already know.” Our wisdom is innate, even if suppressed by culture or societal norms. Somatic practices help embody and experience healing, rather than just intellectualizing it.

The Temple of Shakti serves as a powerful container for this work. Shakti represents limitless feminine energy—nourishing, creative, and transformative. This work allows its the powerful space in ritual and in the nourishing time we connect in-between, to tap into our sacred power, healing not just personally but collectively.

We will spend our days in deep ceremony, worshipping with our Body through song, Earth and water grief, love and aliveness rituals, dance, intimacy and relational practices, embodied touch, yoga, and Yoni mirror and mapping practice, self-touch (consent-based.)

Our connection to the Body acts as an intermediary in our spiritual journey. The feeling you have when alone in nature, sitting in the sun remembering the Love within you, crying at the feet of loss and betrayal, awakening in the pain of your core wound in ways that help you let go into a new layer of love - this is all a part of our path.

Participants will learn the unique Southern Italian style of the ancient healing trance dance of the tarantella, used to cure the mythical bite of the tarantula. The workshop focuses on releasing blockages of energies, breaking the imaginary "spider web" of the subconscious.

THE RITUAL DANCE:

• Pizzica Tarantata, a very fast 6/8 rhythm from Puglia, with different accents, which originated as music therapy to cure the mythical bite of the tarantula. This wild rhythm, played mainly by women on medium size tambourines with a double row of jingles and the dance were performed as a musical exorcism to cure a mental disease called tarantismo, which afflicted mainly women (tarantate), who fell into a hypnotic state of mind, and in a trance they frantically danced for days during the Summer Solstice. Originally these were the ancient Greek rites for the God Dionysus as Puglia was part of Greece and was called Magna Grecia.

This workshop aims to bring women back in touch with an ancient and powerful frame drum and folk dance culture with an active current performance practice in Southern Italy and to release their sexual energy through the spider dance.
